1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible

The right door patched and sprayed with epoxy primer. The car has been in a rear end collision, resulting in this depression being closed up and the quarter panel (and supporting structure) compressed. This will have to be put on a frame machine and pulled back straight prior to panel replacement. It's quite a miracle the work people can do with Bondo. Though more for cleanliness than originality, the deck panel to quarter panel joint is rebuilt. The left quarter panel has it's aft portion cut away for replacement. Even the steel structure of the body is rusted through, we'll have to rebuild and reinforce this prior to welding on the quarter panel. The quarter patch is begun. Unfortunately, the quarter doesn't line up at the rear nor the front. We'll have to work with it as it's the only replacement available. Look at the opening for the wheel to see what we'll have to do. The end caps have to be completely hand built as the portion adjacent to the rear bumper is well out of line. Note the open end, it will be hand built and welded together. How do you like that? Again, all hand built. The right quarter requires almost complete replacement. If we could get full factory style quarters, we would. They are not available, so much hand work is required. Again, the outer wheelwell is rusted through. We cannot safely weld to this. We'll have to fix it. |
